$355 — Washington, D.C. to Lima, Peru (R/T incl. tax)

Machu Picchu

As the leaves start changing on the east coast, Peru ushers in warmer spring temperatures. This makes for an excellent setting to visit Machu Picchu or the Nazca Lines. Cheap flights to Lima are hard to come by, but our experts uncovered a fare for just $355 roundtrip, including taxes from Washington, D.C.

Details and Availability

This fare is available September through December on AeroMexico. It does include a 6-7 hour layover in Mexico City, but the next best fare in the market is nearly three times as much ($900 on TACA Airlines)! With that in mind, a longer layover is acceptable in my opinion because of the tremendous savings.

Attractions in Peru

Peru is home to ancient ruins, lush rainforest and tons of historic sites. Here are just two of the top spots:

  • Machu Picchu – Referred to as “The Lost City of the Incas,” Machu Picchu is believed to have been constructed in the 15th-century as a palace for an Incan emperor. It is located on the side of a mountain and is probably the most well-known site in Peru. UNESCO has some great photos and a detailed description of Machu Picchu.
  • Nazca Lines – A collection of about 300 drawings in the desert floor that can best be seen from above, the Nazca Lines were said to be made in the 1st century and have been preserved due to the dry climate in the area. The Peru Cultural Society has some fantastic images and more information on the Nazca Lines, including directions from Lima.
