Aer Lingus is the national airline of the Republic of Ireland. It was founded in 1936, which makes it Ireland’s oldest airline, although it is not the largest, having been superseded by low cost carrier Ryanair. Flights from Aer Lingus operate from its two main hubs at Dublin and Cork, as well as bases in Belfast, London Gatwick and Shannon.
Aer Lingus flights operate with two distinct business models - on European and North African routes, cheap flights from Aer Lingus are available as part of its low cost service. Transatlantic Aer Lingus flights operate the more traditional two-tier service level familiar on scheduled airlines. Aer Lingus is not a member of any major airline alliance, but it does codeshare with members of Oneworld, Star Alliance and Sky Team, particularly in the United States. Cheap flights from Aer Lingus cover a wide range of European cities in countries including France, Germany, Italy and Spain.
Check-In
The Aer Lingus information on check-in recommends passengers arrive 2.5 hours before departure for short-haul, and 3.5 hours before long-haul flights. Check-in closes 45 minutes prior to departure for all flights.
Baggage
European low cost fares have a 20kg limit for checked baggage and fees are charged per bag. On ‘FlexiFare’ bookings a fee is charged for three or more bags. Long-haul Economy allows one bag of up to 23kg (2 for FlexiFare). Business Class passengers can take three bags of up to 69kg total weight.
Seating
Short-haul, low cost Aer Lingus flights have a seat pitch of 30-32 inches. Long haul Economy is 31 inches and Business Class 52 inches.
Frequent Flyer Programme
The Aer Lingus loyalty programme is called Gold Circle. It entitles members to earn points for flights from Aer Lingus and partner airlines, as well as other rewards such as airport lounge access.
Additional Information
The Aer Lingus ‘FlexiFare’ option allows passengers to make changes to the dates and times of flights up to two hours before the scheduled departure. The scheme also entitles passengers to two pieces of checked luggage on short-haul flights, free seat selection, a waiver of late check-in fees and other rewards.
