Air India is the national carrier of the Republic of India serving 27 destinations in 10 countries around the world. Headquartered in the Air India Building at Nariman Point in South Mumbai, the airline is run by CMD Arvind Jadhav and owned by the National Aviation Company of India Limited.

Air India operates cheap flights to Asia, Europe and North America from its hubs in Delhi and Mumbai. An international stop-over hub is based at Frankfurt Airport. UK passengers can fly directly from London Heathrow, also the airlines focus city. Air India is the oldest serving airline in the country and the 16th largest in Asia. With a fleet of Airbus and Boeing aircraft Air India serves 11 domestic and 17 international destinations.

Check-In
Advance check-in online is available for passengers travelling from Mumbai to UK, Europe and the United States. Standard check in for all Air India passengers is two hours before scheduled departure.

Baggage
Economy passengers can check up to 30kg of hold luggage. First and Executive Class are permitted up to 40kg. All passengers can carry on one item of hand luggage not exceeding 55 x 40 x 20cm in dimension and weighing up to 8kg. Check Air India information for excess baggage fees.

Seating
Air India offers a seat pitch of 31- 34 inches in Economy and 47.2 inches for business travellers. In First Class the seat pitch is 82 inches for international flights.

Additional Information
Air India was established by J.R.D. Tata, the founding father of civil aviation in India. As a young man he trained and received his pilot licence in India and in 1932 he founded 'Tata Airlines' to serve domestic locations. In 1946 the airline became Air India and now serves destinations worldwide.
