Consul Bruno Lucander founded Finnair in 1923 as Aero Ltd. In 1946 the Finnish government acquired a major stake and in 1953 the name Finnair was adopted. Finnair is Finland's largest airline, headquartered on the grounds of Helsinki-Vantaa Airport in Vantaa, Finland. Finnair dominates the domestic and international market in Finland and transports close to 10 million passengers to 15 domestic and 55 international destinations.
The Finnair fleet is made up of 66 aircraft and comprises Airbus, Boeing and Embraer. On international and most European flights, Finnair operates Business and Economy Class seating arrangements. On European flights, the airline offers passengers the chance to buy tickets for a Business Class flight one way and Economy Class ticket the other. Some of Finnair’s international and European destinations include Tokyo, Beijing, Vienna, Prague, Frankfurt, Rome, Milan, New York, Boston and Amsterdam. Cheap flights from Finnair also depart from London Heathrow and Manchester.
Check-In
Online check-in opens 36 hours before departure. Self-service kiosks are located at Manchester and London Heathrow airports. Check-in for European flights is two hours prior to departure, closing 45 minutes before take-off.
Baggage
Economy Class passengers are permitted one item of hand luggage weighing no more than 8kg, with dimensions of 56 x45 x25cm and checked baggage of up to 20kg. All Finnair Plus Platinum, Gold and Silver members are allowed 40kg.
Seating
The latest Finnair information reveals that Finnair flights offer an Economy Class seating pitch of 32 inches. Business class passengers enjoy anything between 34 and 50 inches.
Frequent Flyer Programme
Finnair Plus is Finnair’s frequent flyer programme. This generous four-tier programme rewards its members individually. The more points they collect, the higher their tier and the more valuable the reward.
