Established in 2002, bmibaby is part of bmi (British Midland International), which is owned by German airline Lufthansa. As a low-cost subsidiary airline of bmi, cheap flights from bmibaby offer passengers a competitively priced alternative to other low-cost carriers for flights to Europe. From its four British bases at Birmingham, Manchester, East Midlands and Cardiff airports, bmibaby flights operate on a number of popular routes to airports such as Barcelona and Alicante on the Spanish coast, as well as destinations in Germany, France, Portugal, Italy and several other European countries.
In addition to its European departures, internal flights from bmibaby are available from other regional British airports including Glasgow, Edinburgh and Belfast to several UK destinations, which typically include one of its four main hubs. The airline operates the Boeing 737-300 and 737-500 aircraft, flying around 700 services per week to 30 destinations in Europe.
Check-in
Check-in opens two hours prior to departure and closes 40 minutes before the flight (30 minutes for domestic flights). Online check-in is available and fees are applicable for checking in at the airport.
Baggage
Checked baggage incurs a fee at the time of booking, which is cheaper for online bookings. The fees are based on standard baggage weight of 18kg per one-way flight, but additional weight can be purchased in 2kg increments. The standard weight of 18kg can be carried in up to five bags.
Seating
Seats can be reserved in advance for a fee. Emergency exit seats with more leg room are charged at a higher rate. Seat pitch is 29-31 inches on the Boeing 737-300 and 32-33 inches on the Boeing 737-500.
Frequent Flyer Programme
Passengers on cheap flights from bmibaby can take advantage of the bmi frequent flyer programme, the Diamond Club, earning status miles that can be used for flights in the Star Alliance group.
Additional Information
According to the latest information from bmibaby, the airline has recently launched a special service for children under the age of 16 travelling alone on bmibaby flights, called the Club Solo 7215 programme. Stringent rules apply to the booking of the service, but children cannot fly unaccompanied otherwise.
