‘Norwegian’ is the commercial brand name of Norwegian Air Shuttle ASA. Founded in 1993, Norwegian is Scandinavia’s second largest airline, and one of the largest low cost carriers in Europe. Cheap flights from Norwegian operate from its main hub at Oslo Airport, Gardemoen, the main airport serving the Norwegian capital, as well as secondary hubs throughout Norway.
In the UK, Norwegian flights carry passengers from London Gatwick and Edinburgh airports to destinations across Scandinavia, including cities in Norway, Denmark, Finland and Sweden. Including departures from its Scandinavian hubs, cheap flights from Norwegian serve 87 destinations on 170 different routes. The ever-growing Norwegian fleet consists of over 50 Boeing 737-300 and Boeing 737-800 aircraft, with more soon to be added as Norwegian flights open up to new routes.
Check-In
The Norwegian information states that check-in opens at least two hours before a flight, and closes 45 minutes prior to departure, as does the ‘bag drop’ facility for kiosk check-in.
Baggage
Passengers on Norwegian flights can take two pieces of checked luggage of up to 20kg in each bag. Hand luggage is restricted to one item per person with a maximum weight of 10kg and dimensions no larger than 55cm x 40 cm x 23cm.
Seating
There is currently no standard Norwegian Air Shuttle information on seat pitch, though many aircraft are currently being fitted with smaller, lighter Recaro seats to improve leg room.
Frequent Flyer Programme
The airline operates a frequent flyer programme called Norwegian Reward, where regular passengers can earn CashPoints that can be redeemed against additional cheap flights from Norwegian and other benefits.
Additional Information
Norwegian recently placed an order with manufacturer Boeing to receive 15 new Boeing 737-800s at a cost of $1.15 billion, increasing its total order to 57 next-generation 737’s, following the landmark order of 42 Boeings in 2007. The interior of the new planes features soft blue lighting to create a relaxed atmosphere.
