SATA International is a subsidiary of SATA Air Açores, an airline based in the Azores. Cheap flights from SATA International originated with the 1994 purchase of OceanAir by SATA Air Açores. The first official SATA International flights did not leave the ground until 1998, after the OceanAir name was dropped and the airline got its own air operator’s certificate, making it an independent entity. The airline is based at João Paulo II Airport in the Azores.
Cheap flights from SATA International fly to destinations in Europe, North America and the Caribbean. SATA International flights from the UK operate from several regional airports including London Heathrow, London Gatwick and Manchester. In the past the airline has also engaged in charter operations from airports such as Exeter and East Midlands. The airline has a fleet comprised of Airbus 310-300s and A320-200s.
Check-in
SATA International information recommends that passengers should check in the airport 90 minutes before departure, but check-in will close 45 minutes before the flight.
Baggage
All passengers on SATA International flights can carry hand luggage up to 6kg. The hold baggage allowance varies according to the class of travel. Executive Class passengers are entitled to 30kg and Economy Class 20kg. Gold Sky membership of the SATA Imagine frequent flyer programme provides an extra 10kg.

SATA International information sources report that record numbers of travellers from the UK are now booking SATA International flights to the Azores. The flight from London to Ponta Delgada saw an astonishing 79 per cent increase in passenger numbers between 2009 and 2010, more than twice the 31 per cent increase from the German market.
