SATA International is a subsidiary of SATA Air Açores, an airline based in the Azores. Cheap flights from SATA International originated with the 1994 purchase of OceanAir by SATA Air Açores. The first official SATA International flights did not leave the ground until 1998, after the OceanAir name was dropped and the airline got its own air operator’s certificate, making it an independent entity. The airline is based at João Paulo II Airport in the Azores.
Cheap flights from SATA International fly to destinations in Europe, North America and the Caribbean. SATA International flights from the UK operate from several regional airports including London Heathrow, London Gatwick and Manchester. In the past the airline has also engaged in charter operations from airports such as Exeter and East Midlands. The airline has a fleet comprised of Airbus 310-300s and A320-200s.
