Scandinavian Airlines or SAS, previously Scandinavian Airlines System, is the main air carrier of Denmark, Norway and Sweden. It is the largest airline in Scandinavia.
Copenhagen airport is one of the airline's three main European and intercontinental hubs, with Stockholm-Arlanda airport and Oslo airport, Gardermoen as secondary hubs. With its head office in Solna, Sweden, Scandinavian Airlines operates 143 aircraft, flying almost 30 million passengers to 90 destinations in 28 countries.
The airline was founded nearly 70 years ago, in 1946, and the first European and domestic flights started two years later. In 1951, the airline merged to become SAS and today it is the ninth-largest airline in Europe.
Passengers can book intercontinental flights to the United States, the Middle East and Asia. Cheap flights from Scandinavian Airlines depart from five major UK airports including London Heathrow, Gatwick, Birmingham, Manchester or Aberdeen.
Internet check-in is available. Check-in for the Internet, mobile phone and SMS, closes no later than 60 minutes before departure. Desks close 40 minutes before departure for European flights and 60 minutes for intercontinental flights.
Scandinavian Airlines information on baggage allowance permits Economy passengers to check one bag into the hold weighing 23kg. Economy Extra passengers are permitted two bags of the same weight and Business Class passengers are permitted two bags of 32kg each. All passengers can take on one item of 8kg hand luggage.
Scandinavian Airlines believe in giving passengers maximum leg-room, so the pitch of their seats are fixed at a generous 32 inches for Economy and 37 inches for Economy Extra.
Frequent Flyer Programme
Scandinavian Airlines passengers qualify for EuroBonus, the premier loyalty and frequent flyer programme for Nordic countries. Members can accumulate points on their flights, hotels, car rentals, restaurants and resorts.
For those who want a more calm and relaxing flight, classical hatha yoga teacher and stress management trainer Andrea Newman presents two sessions of yoga positions designed especially for use on Scandinavian Airlines flights. The programme can be found on channel 16 of the in-flight entertainment channel.
