Spanair, a Spanish airline, with its head office near Barcelona was, until 2009, a subsidiary of Scandinavian Airlines, which today holds just under 20% of the company. Spanair began operations in March 1988 and now provides a scheduled passenger network within Spain and Europe with an extension to West Africa. Its main hub is El Prat Airport in Barcelona, with focus cities at Barajas airport in Madrid and Son Sant Joan airport in Palma de Mallorca.
The launch of Spanair’s operation in the UK began in 2010 from Birmingham airport. Cheap flights from Spanair now depart from Birmingham to Barcelona and Madrid. Barcelona is served four times per week and Madrid flights will operate three times a week. Timings have been scheduled to meet business and leisure travellers’ needs and both destinations will be served all year round. Spanair’s fleet of aircraft are made up of Airbus and Boeing.
Check-In
Check-in deadline is 30 minutes for Business Avant Class and 60 minutes for Economy Class. All passengers may check in with Easy Check-in machines up to 30 minutes prior to departure.
Baggage
Spanair information on baggage allowance permits 20kg of checked in luggage for Economy passengers and 30kg for Business Avant Class. One piece of hand luggage per passenger weighing up to 6kg is also allowed.
