Sudan Airways is the national airline of Sudan, with a head office in Khartoum and its home hub at Khartoum International Airport. The airline was founded in 1947 by the Sudan Railway company in order to provide access to parts of the country inaccessible by rail. Sudan Airways flights then began operating on international routes and the airline eventually expanded to its current fleet of eight aircraft operating on nearly 30 routes, with destinations all over Africa and the Middle East.
Sudan Airways flights from the UK are currently not in operation, although it was previously possible to book cheap flights from Sudan Airways from London to Khartoum. However Sudan Airways is planning on entering a codeshare agreement with bmi to offer a London Heathrow to Khartoum service four times a week. bmi flights to Khartoum depart from London Heathrow Terminal one.
Check-in
Following its privatisation in 2007 Sudan Airways introduced one of the most advanced computerised check-in and inventory systems in Africa, however for check-in times passengers should contact the airline in advance.
Baggage
The baggage allowance for Sudan Airways flights may vary depending on the route, and therefore passengers should check with the airline well in advance. For routes on the bmi codeshare flights to Khartoum the baggage allowance should be checked with bmi.
Seating
Sudan Airways do not currently provide information on the seat pitch aboard Sudan Airways flights.
Frequent Flyer Programme
Sudan Airways does not have a frequent flyer programme, however it is part of the Arab Air Carrier Organization, which aims to promote quality and safety and reduce costs with initiatives such as e-ticketing.
Additional Information
Sudan Airways information reports that the airline is expanding once again, and its latest addition to the fleet is an Airbus A320, which will be flying the route from the Sudanese capital Khartoum to the southern city of Juba.
