A warm welcome in Belfast

Belfast is home to a thriving modern city and a traditional way of life. Heritage trails, museums and the dockyards give an insight into the Belfast of old. Enjoy the thriving shopping centres, bars and stylish restaurants of the city and mix with the locals. Wherever you journey, you can be rest assured that a smile will be waiting. Few cities in the world have the coast so nearby and natural pathways lead visitors up steep hillsides to spectacular views over Belfast and the Irish Sea. Stroll through the parks and down by the riverside to see yachts and speedboats on the water. Follow a guide around sights such as the Ulster Museum, Belfast Castle and The Grand Opera House. At night choose one of the city’s popular venues for exhibitions, concerts and plays and finish the evening with a pint in one of many friendly bars.

Why Go?
Belfast is a city with the sea on its doorstep and a woodland Glen at the border. Explore the river valley paths and areas of natural beauty. Alternatively immerse yourself in the city centre’s vibrant energy of the pubs and restaurants. Golfing, hiking, shopping and clubbing abound in Belfast.

When To Go?
Belfast welcomes visitors all year round but waterproof clothing is advised as the appearance of rain is commonplace. With schools out during summer and several festivals taking place from May to August, this period is naturally the busiest.
Early spring and autumn are quieter times to travel and cheaper flights are available from the UK.

How To Get There?
Belfast is served by two airports; Belfast International Airport (BFS) and Belfast City Airport (BHD) also known as George Best Belfast City Airport. Both offer direct routes to UK destinations. Shuttle bus services are available from the terminal building of both airports; the journey into the city centre takes around 20 minutes. Flying to Belfast from the UK takes about an hour or you can catch a ferry from Stranraer, Douglas and Liverpool.

Must See
The best way to see Belfast on a first time trip is to book a seat on board one of the city tour buses. With so many places of cultural significance and architectural merit visitors can get an insight into these historical attractions including the Wheel of Belfast, Belmont Tower, St Anne’s Cathedral and the City Hall. Taking a city tour is also a stress-free way to travel throughout Belfast and is a great opportunity to take photographs.
