A wonderful mix of Spanish tradition and contemporary flair

Nicknamed "City of the Sun" for its heavenly weather, Alicante is one of the most well-known towns along the Spanish Costa Blanca. With its wonderful boulevard with palm trees and shopping streets, and miles of sandy beaches, Alicante is the destination for thousands of tourists every year. With many historical buildings scattered around the entire city, Alicante offers countless sightseeing attractions, from cathedrals to churches and of course a wonderful harbor area. When the sun goes down, you’ll find atmospheric taverns, energetic cocktail bars, frenetic "discotecas" and everything in between to keep you going until sunrise.

Why Go?
Located directly upon Spain's Costa Blanca (White Coast), Alicante not only has wonderful beaches, but is also a great starting point for excursions. Hike in the mountains, sail the seas, explore the coastline's towns, and much more! Along the Alicante harbor you will find beautiful long alleys for relaxing walks, while enjoying the palm trees and the mild climate.

When to go
Warm, sunny days are abundant in Alicante, and makes it a great destination throughout the year. Summers in Alicante don't get too hot, winters don't get too cold, and it doesn't rain more than 20 days a year in this Spanish town.

How to get there
Alicante Airport is the sixth busiest airport in Spain, and the main airport for the Province of Alicante. It is also one of the biggest airports for charter flights in Spain, and Alicante Airport is located just 9 km southwest of the centre of Alicante. Ryanair established a base at the airport, and from March 2010 they will serve 59 routes to and from Alicante.

Must see
With its compact city center, Alicante is an easy city to get around on foot as most of the main attractions in Alicante are located within the historical quarter. From the cathedral, the labyrinth of narrow walkways in the Old Quarter of Alicante are just a few steps away, with the Church of Santa María, the Art Museum MUBAG and the town hall are side by side with the liveliest bars and terraces of el Barrio. Additional to sightseeing, a long wide sandy beach leads its way up from Alicante to San Juan.
