Manchester has mild summers and cold winters, but sees highs of almost 20°C in July and August. The summer is considered the best time to visit the city as many of the cultural festivals take place then. December is no stranger to freezing temperatures, but the Christmas market draws the seasonal crowds.

Manchester is served by Manchester Airport (MAN) located 14km (approximately 9 miles) from the city centre. Direct flights are available to destinations around the world including Europe, North America, South Asia and the Middle East. Passengers can travel to the city centre by bus, taxi or rail. The train station is positioned between the two terminals. The railway also offers routes to outlying cities and as far as Edinburgh.

Manchester is an energetic city with so many attractions and points of interest. Walk through the streets to see a variety of different architectural styles. Visit the Manchester Art Gallery for the country’s most significant collection of Pre-Raphaelite paintings, view Egyptian artefacts at the Manchester Museum and head to The Lowry Art Centre - home to original paintings from the artist. The city is also a media hub with several companies based here including Granada TV and BBC studios so look for famous faces in nearby bars.
