Lush tropical islands in warm shallow waters

The Seychelles is a place to unwind, snorkel and stroll along the beach. Thousands of miles from anywhere, these 115 islands are absolutely stunning. Powdery white beaches, gleaming turquoise waters, coconut palms, and lush green interiors – for those who are looking to relax, this is paradise.  While most visitors to the Seychelles do little more than flip-flop from their hotel to the beach, there is a variety of other activities to indulge in. These include the opportunity to see giant tortoises in their natural habitat, do a spot of bird watching for rare breeds and take a jungle walk. With the average sea temperature rarely dropping below 27°C, the water is a tempting place for swimmers, divers and snorkelers alike. Mahe is the largest of the Seychelles and home to Victoria, the capital. Praslin is another popular island and its Anse Lazio beach is said to be one of the World’s most divine.

Why Go?
Go for the laid-back no news, no shoes atmosphere of the islands, the astoundingly beautiful beaches, the shallow warm waters, the stylish hotels and the excellent snorkelling and scuba diving. But perhaps better still, go to do absolutely nothing at all – sheer bliss!

When to Go?
The Seychelles enjoys a year-round warm, sunny, humid climate. Temperatures range from around 25°C to 32°C. Rain can occur at any time of the year, but the heaviest of these tends to be from November to February, with January seeing the most rain. July and August are the driest months. Peak season, and therefore the most expensive time, is from mid-December to early January, and from mid July to the end of August.

How to get there
Flights operate from across the UK to Seychelles International Airport on the island of Mahe and also the island of Praslin, with one or two stopovers en route. The approximate flying time from the UK is 9 -10 hours, excluding stopovers. There is a regular network of air and sea transport connecting Mahe to the other islands. Ferries, domestic flights and even helicopters are available.

Must see
Go to Aldabra Atoll, the world’s largest coral reef and home to the giant land tortoise. Enjoy bird watching - many rare and beautiful breeds live in the Seychelles. April is the beginning of the breeding season and the islands are brimming with sea birds from May to September.  Try snorkelling and take some snaps - the waters around the islands are perfect for underwater photography. Laze your days away on soft white sands, don’t pick up your email and don’t answer your phone.
