United Airlines Inc, commonly known as United, is a major airline carrier of United States and is headquartered in Chicago, Illinois. At present it is the world’s third largest airline in terms of revenue and is a founding member of the Star Alliance. The airline traces its history back to 1926 when Varney Air Lines was founded. United was the brainchild of William Boeing who founded Boeing Airplane Company and in 1929 merged it and formed United Aircraft and Transport Corporation. UATC formed United Air Lines, Inc. as a holding company for its airline subsidiaries in 1931. In 2010, it merged with Continental Airlines and in 2012, United and Continental merged their passenger service systems, frequent-flier programs, and websites, which virtually eliminated the Continental brand with the exception of its logo. United Airlines flies to 78 domestic mainline destinations and 108 international destinations in 73 countries across Asia, Americas, Europe and Oceania and operates a fleet of 758 aircrafts, all Boeing and Airbus.
