About the Airlines:

China Eastern Airlines was established under the Civil Aviation Administration System of China in 1988. Headquartered in the Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport, it is China’s second-largest carrier by passenger numbers. Its fleet consists of over 600 aircraft, including Airbus A320, Airbus A330, Boeing 777-300ER, Boeing B767, Boeing 737-770, and Boeing 737-800. Recently, China Eastern had its logo altered after 30 years. The new logo retains the swallow image on the red and blue background with the airline’s name written in both Mandarin and English.

China Eastern, together with its codeshare partner airlines, serves over 1052 destinations and 177 nations worldwide. China Eastern Airlines flights serve popular cities in Australia, Europe, Korea, Japan, North America as well as Southeast Asia. Shanghai Pudong International Airport is the main hub; Beijing and Qingdao are secondary hubs.

Baggage and Other Policies:

Depending on the respective China Eastern Airlines flight tickets, baggage policies vary for every class: -

• First class passengers are allowed to carry two pieces as hand luggage and 40 kgs of checked luggage.
• Business class and Economy class passengers are permitted to carry one carry-on luggage and two checked baggage weighing a maximum of 30 kgs ad 20 kgs respectively
• No baggage above 50 Kgs is allowed on the plane. Excess baggage fees vary by destination which can either be charged on per kg or per piece basis

Unaccompanied children traveling on China Eastern Airlines international flights must buy adult fare tickets. Children between the ages of 5 and 12 (provided they are healthy) can avail the status of Unaccompanied Minor, even on international flights. Special employees are assigned to take care of minors from check-in to disembarkment. But the airlines must give its consent before the minor is allowed to travel alone.

China Eastern does not allow pets to travel in the cabin. Dogs and cats can be transported as checked baggage but other heavier animals can be transported as cargo.

In-Flight Amenities:

China Eastern Airlines flight bookings can be made for a First class, a Business class, and an Economy Class, but short flights have only Business Class and an Economy Class.

• First class passengers on international flights are provided with pod-style flatbed seats along with comfortable pillows, duvet and a large IFE screen with a choice of movies. The airlines offer Chinese and Western meals but Chinese is more common. A variety of wine is also available. An amenity kit consisting of snug pajamas and slippers is offered to passengers as well.
• Business class also comes in nice flatbed seat pods in a 1X2X1 configuration. Similar to First class, passengers are offered a duvet and pillows along with slippers. The catering is similar to First class but the IFE system comes with fewer options.
• Economy Class seats are comfortable and well-spaced with reasonable leg-space. Passengers flying to international destinations are provided with a blanket and a pillow. Onboard catering is considered up to the mark. They are also provided with the IFE system but options are limited.

Web Check-In:

China Eastern Airlines flight check-in can be made 24 hours before the flight departure in order to avoid long queues at the airport. Passengers carrying infants will have to check-in at the airport counter only.
