Oktoberfest celebrations 2019

Oktoberfest, a 15-day beer festival held annually in Munich, Germany first began as a wedding party for the then Prince, in October 1810. Of late, it has become a world-renowned event as an increasing number of international travellers have been attracted to it, thanks to innumerable cheap flights to Munich. An estimated 7 million people visit every year for an experience of a lifetime which includes dressing up in traditional Bavarian clothes, getting together in large decorated tents and of course, guzzling down massive steins of beer.

Fret not if Munich seems too far away. You can now celebrate closer to home with Oktoberfest celebrations unfolding across the United States. Read on to find out the top picks across the country.

If you’re looking for the biggest party, look no further than Zinzinnati. The Cincinnati Oktoberfest celebration, recognised as North America’s largest Oktoberfest, attracts a whopping 500,000 attendees each year. Running from 21st to 23rd September, Zinzinnati’s highlights include several venues of live entertainment including bands, German folk dancers and a chance to flex your muscles in a stein holding contest. If the 100 booths offering German food don’t perk up your ears, you should know that the event set a record for the world’s largest chicken dance in 1994 led by the Crown Prince of Bavaria himself. That’s not all, every year hundreds of mini dachshunds dressed in hot dog buns race one another for the title of “King or Queen of the Weiner Dogs!”
