EVA Air to Join Star Alliance

EVA Air and Star Alliance fliers can rejoice — Star Alliance announced today that EVA will join the alliance once the airline has met the 80 or so prerequisites to becoming a member.  Since the process for meeting all prerequisites is typically lengthy, EVA is expected to join the alliance in 2013.

EVA Air is the second-largest carrier based in Taiwan, after China Airlines (not to be confused with Air China, which is based in Beijing, China).  EVA Air flies to approximately 60 destinations in Europe, Asia and North America from its hubs in Taipei and Bangkok.   The airline was among the first to introduce a “premium economy” cabin (in 1992), and its flights between New York and Taipei, San Francisco and Taipei, and Los Angeles and Taipei are particularly popular options for Asian Americans looking to fly to Taiwan and beyond.

Once EVA Air joins Star Alliance, fliers will be able to earn miles on EVA for redemption on Star Alliance’s 27 other carriers, and vice versa.
