Mango Airlines is a low-budget airlines company owned by the government of South Africa. It is a subsidiary of South African Airlines, and its hub is located in OR Tambo International Airport near Johannesburg. Mango runs a fleet of new-generation, fuel-efficient Boeing 737-800 aircraft. The logo is “mango” written in a playful font against a vibrant orange background.
Mango Airlines flights travel to some of the most popular destinations in South Africa such as Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban, Bloemfontein, Port Elizabeth, and George. The airline also covers the exotic island of Zanzibar, located at the crossroads of Africa, the Middle East, and Asia.
Mango does not offer unaccompanied minor services. All children below the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult above the age of 16. A young guest between the age of 12-16 may travel alone, but cannot serve as an adult companion for another child between the age of 2-12.
Mango Airlines only transports domestic pets such as cats, dogs, and parrots. The total weight of the animal including the carrier cannot exceed 32 kg. The health certificate of the animal must be furnished. Pets will fly in a ventilated area of the luggage hold. Service animals can travel free of charge. They need to be seated at the feet of the passenger and cannot travel in a carrier.
There are no business class seats on Mango Airlines. Complimentary meals and drinks are not served on board. Passengers can buy the following items on-board - water, beer, tea, fruit juices, wine, coffee, muffins, sandwiches, sweets and kiddies boxes. Passengers can also avail Wi-Fi facility for an additional charge. Guests can read and stay entertained with the airline’s magazine - Mango Juice. The airline offers ergonomically designed seats with ample legroom. Passengers can book two seats for extra comfort, chargeable at the usual fare. Mango Airlines check-in can be done online 24 hours prior to the scheduled flight departure, up until 90 minutes before a domestic departure and 2 hours before flights to Zanzibar.
Mango Airlines has won quite a few awards in its 10 years of operation, due to its exceptional service. The company won the ASCA Feather Award 8 years in a row since 2006. It has also won the PRIMS Best Airline Company Award, PRIMS Corporate Communication, Social Development and Sponsorship Awards. The airline has recently launched its loyalty program called Go Rewards which aims at providing instant rewards. Members of the loyalty program can enjoy discounted Mango Airlines fares.
