Initiated under the name of SCADTA, Avianca Airlines was founded on 5 December 1919 in Bogota, Colombia. It has been the flag carrier of Colombia since the day of its establishment. Avianca is headquartered at Bogota. Its logo consists of the word “Avianca” written in bold red letters on a white background, with a flying bird next to it. Avianca has a fleet of 189 aircraft comprising 12 Boeing 787, 9 Airbus A330, 64 Airbus A320, 13 Airbus A321, 26 Airbus A319, and 10 Airbus 313, among others.
Avianca is known to cover 108 destinations in 26 countries of which the focus spots are Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and the beaches of the Caribbean Sea in Latin America and Cancun, Cali, Medellin, Bogota, Cartagena, Barranquilla, and Cusco outside of Latin America.
The maximum dimensions of baggage that are allowed in Avianca flights are 55 cms of height (22 inches), 35 cms of length (14 inches) and 25 cms of width (10 inches), regardless of destination, class, or route.
For checked baggage, the sum of height, breadth, and length cannot be more than 158 cm (62 inches).
Children between the ages of 5 and 11 are treated as unaccompanied minors when traveling alone. They have to request special service while booking their Avianca flight tickets. Children between the ages of 12 and 17 can travel alone, and also accompany minors. Avianca takes full responsibility of the child with services provided at the check-in counter and boarding gate. The crew helps the minor in boarding the aircraft, baggage pickup and finally, makes sure to hand over the child to their guardian at the destination airport.
Subject to Avianca’s terms and conditions regarding weight and dimensions, a pet can be carried in the cabin in a waterproof carry-on bag with air-holes. Pets must have a leash on and a name label. They need to be placed under the seat in front of the passenger
