      Cheap Flights to Bodrum

Aegean Resort on Turkey’s Turquoise Coast

In times gone by, being sent to Bodrum’s Castle of St Peter would have been seen as a punishment. Now thousands flock each year to this picturesque Aegean resort with its Crusader castle and lively bars, clubs and restaurants. Turkish food is delectable!
Bodrum is a popular yachting port known for its exuberant nightlife and white sandy beaches. Of historical interest are the ruins of the original Mausoleum (one of the seven wonders of the ancient world), the Museum of Underwater Archaeology and the Bodrum Amphitheatre. Turkey is volcanic, with lots of natural hot springs, so thermal spa resorts and mud baths are dotted throughout the country. For an invigorating scrub, visit the Bodrum Turkish Baths and revive afterwards with some strong, sweet Turkish tea. And if you want to venture further afield, regular ferries run between Bodrum and the Greek Islands in the tourist season.

      Why Go?
Go for the vibrant nightlife, the boat tours, the Turkish baths (great for hangovers), the food and the guaranteed sunshine. Expect a friendly welcome, especially children, who are seen as a blessing in Turkey. Hire a board and try windsurfing at nearby Vass or go scuba diving along the Turquoise Coast.

      When to Go?
Turkey enjoys a Mediterranean climate, with hot summers and cool winters. The best times to visit Bodrum are during the spring (May–June) and autumn (Sep-Oct) if you want to avoid the crowds and intense heat of summer. Cruises and tourist attractions tend to be cheaper at these times. It’s worth remembering that Ramadan lasts for a month and may disrupt travel plans so check dates – they change every year.

      How to get there?
Direct flights to Bodrum are available from all major UK airports. Bodrum Airport (Milas-Bodrum) is 21 miles northeast of Bodrum and the journey to Bodrum town by airport bus will take about 40 minutes. Other alternatives include flying to Dalaman or Izmir Airports (both a 3 hour drive) or Kos and travelling to Bodrum by ferry (1 hour). There are plenty of buses but no trains to Bodrum.

      Must see
Don’t leave Bodrum without a trip along the Turquoise Coast in a wooden boat (gulet). Join an organised tour from the marina or any of the beaches, or hire a boat of your own and explore the coastline. One of the best beaches in the area is the Tropical Camel Beach, approximately 30 minutes from Bodrum. Take a dolmus (public taxi) from the central bus station and ride a camel along the beach!
