Dubrovnik is a city of ancient memorials and a rich historical past. Some of the most impressive and somewhat hidden sights of this area can be found on a small island seen from the shore. Take a boat from the Old Harbour over to Lokrum and explore the fortress and monastery. Legend has it that this island was the refuge of Richard the Lionheart in 1192. Stroll around the botanical gardens and take in the scenery. Lokrum is also home to a naturist beach which can get quite busy during the summer.
