The largest island of Spain, Mallorca is one of the Balearic Islands and a popular tourist destination for holidaymakers from the UK. With temperatures which do not tend to dip below the teens even in winter, Mallorca and its capital Palma are great options for year-round travel and to escape the freezing conditions elsewhere in Europe once winter hits.

Sun, sea and sand can be found on the north and east coasts of Mallorca, with its Mediterranean climate proving a winning choice for UK holidaymakers since the 1950s. Palma, located on the south coast of the island, has the traditional sight-seeing buses and the city's old town boasts some quiet and picturesque streets. The bay area around Palma de Mallorca is home to some stunning sunsets. 

Why Go?
Mallorca can be the traditional summer holiday destination with a trip to Alcudia or Cala d'Or, where long stretches of sandy beach will satisfy even the most dedicated of sun-lovers. Magaluf remains a favourite for party people, with Palma Nova beach a good spot to relax and sleep off the previous night's excesses. Capital Palma offers more of a sight-seeing, culture-dominated experience.

When to Go?
Summers on Mallorca can see the mercury headed up to the high twenties (June to September) and you're pretty much guaranteed sunny days and balmy evenings. You'll need to be prepared to battle with the families during the school holidays in July and August though, for that very reason. Temperatures in winter stay mild too.

How to get there
easyJet and Ryanair serve Mallorca's international airport in Palma with direct flights which can have you landing approximately two and a half hours after takeoff. Iberia and Air Europe both fly via Madrid from London, while Jet2 offers flights from the north and Scotland.

Must see
Palma's old town is definitely worth a visit, while catching the sunset over the Bay of Palma is another must-see when on the island. The northwest coast is home to the Serre de Tramuntara mountain range, a great area to take a walk and get some fresh mountain air. The coast around Mallorca is also great to see – a boat trip around the coast allows you to appreciate the natural beauty of the island.
