Sunshine city with history
Located on the banks of Lake Monroe, Sanford is a 19th century city with a quaint downtown area. Sanford is home to some of Florida’s most popular attractions - tour the Zoo and Botanical Gardens, look through the exhibits at the Museum of Seminole County History and enjoy the Victorian houses and stores of First Street. The people of Sanford have a good sense of community and are known for their hospitality; join in on their monthly ‘Alive After 5’ street parties. Enjoy the Saturday morning Farmer’s Market, open air performances in Magnolia Square and productions in the Wayne Densch Performing Arts Center. Pick up a gift and browse the shops at The Seminole Towne Center, one of the largest malls in Central Florida. Spend a peaceful afternoon on St John’s River and row your way over to Marina Island; boats can be hired from the Port of Sanford at the Osteen Bridge.
Discover Florida away from the theme parks and amusements. Come to Sanford and see one of the state’s oldest cities. Watch yachts sail in and out of the marina, pick up locally grown produce from the market, spend an afternoon in one of Sanford’s beautiful city parks and take a boat out onto Lake Monroe.
When To Go?
Sanford is part of the Sunshine State of Florida and enjoys long, warm, fairly humid temperatures for most of the year. The hottest and wettest weather in June- September is also known as hurricane season. Travellers not used to this climate might prefer the weather during October through to May, with average temperatures of 32°C.
How To Get There?
Sanford is served by Orlando-Sanford International Airport (SFB) and offers scheduled direct flights to the UK and other US destinations. Sanford is a city of parks, gardens and nature so no trip would be complete without taking in some of these sights. Join the fishermen by the seawall at Memorial Park, or enjoy a BBQ on one of Academy Manor Park’s open grills. Enter the lush tropical landscape at Central Florida Zoo to see some of Sanford’s famous residents including the Clouded Leopard and Red Ruffed Lemur.
