      Cheap Flights to Zagreb

A gracious capital at the heart of a beautiful country

One million people live in Croatia’s attractive capital. The upheavals of the 1990s seem a world away and thanks to investment and tourism the city is thriving. Stylish accommodation, bars and restaurants are popping up all over town and visitors are on the increase. Zagreb combines old-world grace with modern day vitality. Much of the architecture is Baroque or neo-classical, and the clean streets, boulevards and squares are reminiscent of Vienna or Prague. At Zagreb’s centre is a charming medieval old town with delightful cobbled streets and an enjoyable café culture. The city also boasts a large number of theatres, along with around 40 museums and galleries. The shopping is satisfying too and visitors can spend their Kuna on designer labels or at the enticing markets. For out of town pursuits, take a tram to Mount Medvednica for skiing, hiking and impressive views of the city.

      Why Go?
Go for the bustling culture, spacious parks, the great markets and exquisite architecture. The beautiful old town and surrounding scenery is popular with tourists. Explore the city to find historic sights and a huge number of galleries housing interesting art.

      When to Go?
The end of May sees temperatures in Zagreb around 30°C. The heat then subsides slightly in July and August to a more manageable 20°C. October to December tends to be rainy and foggy. In the winter temperatures drop to single figures and snowfall is common. The best time to visit Zagreb is from June to September when the wonderful parks and outside cafes can be enjoyed.

      How to get there?
Direct flights are available from London to Zagreb International Airport (ZAG). The airport is located 17km from the city centre in the Pleso district. Buses and taxis are available from the airport into the city. It is also possible to fly to Rijeka, Ljubljana, Graz or Klagenfurt on budget airlines and travel by bus or train from these airports.

      Must see
Go to Trg Bana Jelacica, Ban Jelacic Square - Zagreb’s main square - and take a seat in one of the open-air cafes. The square is pedestrianised and makes for a peaceful place for soaking up the atmosphere and watching the trams pass by. Explore the Hrelic flea market on a Sunday morning or visit the outdoor antique market on Britanski Trg. In summer head to Maksimir Park and relax in lovely surroundings as you watch the locals cycling, strolling or jogging. There are lots of hidden treasures to uncover in Zagreb.
